The Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat) will convene in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Wednesday and Thursday, 28–29 October, for its 17th plenary session, hosted by the Parliament of the Canary Islands. Around 40 Members of the European Parliament are expected to attend, alongside counterparts from Latin American regional parliaments, according to the European Parliament.

The agenda centres on the protection of multilateralism and Euro-Latin American cooperation, as well as the promotion of free trade in the face of what the assembly describes as threats of withdrawal. Additional topics include biodiversity protection, dependence on strategic raw materials, the expansion of artificial intelligence and its impact on labour and social rights, the online protection of minors, disinformation, organised crime, violence against women, and inter-regional solidarity in emergencies. Academics, representatives of international and non-governmental organisations, and Canary Islands authorities will join parliamentarians for the discussions.

The opening session on Wednesday will feature remarks from Fernando Clavijo Battle, president of the government of the Canary Islands, and Astrid Pérez, speaker of the regional parliament. EuroLat's two co-presidents — Spanish MEP Gabriel Mato (EPP) and Uruguayan senator Daniel Caggiani — will also address the plenary. European Parliament president Roberta Metsola and Ibero-American General Secretariat secretary general Andrés Allamand will contribute via video message. Mato and Caggiani are scheduled to make press statements at 11.30 on Wednesday at the seat of the Parliament of the Canary Islands.

EuroLat's five standing committees will meet on Tuesday, 27 October, covering political affairs, security and human rights, economic and commercial affairs, sustainable development and technology, and social affairs. The Euro-Latin American Women's Forum and the Working Group on Security and Civil Society are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, a ceremony will mark EuroLat's approaching 20th anniversary — formally reached in 2026 — with several former co-chairs attending from both the EU and Latin American sides. The assembly, which meets in plenary once a year, held its previous session in Lima, Peru, in June 2025. EuroLat has 150 members in total, drawn equally from the European Parliament and from Latin American regional parliaments including Parlatino, Parlandino, Parlacen, Parlasur, and the congresses of Chile and Mexico.
