U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru between September 8 and 10, the State Department announced, with the aim of reinforcing key American partnerships in the region. The trip was announced by Spokesman Thomas "Tommy" Pigott of the Office of the Spokesperson.

In Colombia, Rubio is set to meet with the new De La Espriella government to discuss U.S. support for the country's earthquake response. In Ecuador, he will hold talks with President Noboa, and in Peru he will meet with the new Fujimori government. Across all three stops, enhanced cooperation in the fight against narcoterrorism — described in the announcement as a threat to the hemisphere — is listed as a central agenda item, alongside the potential for deeper commercial relationships between the United States and each of the three countries.

According to the State Department, Secretary Rubio will use the tour to reaffirm the Trump Administration's commitment to a secure, prosperous, and democratic Western Hemisphere throughout the visit.
